Swedish forestry is again back to normal after the great storm in January 2005. In the autumn felling will be resumed as usual, as if the season were quite normal. The extent of felling will be approximately 80 - 90 % of what it is in a normal season. The long term effects of the Gudrun storm no longer have any noticeable effects on the present situation. The work ahead consists of normal felling in forests that were not so hard hit by the storm. Some forest owners showed solidarity and postponed their felling for the time it took to clean up after the storm. The timber presently in stock can be left lying for some time without any problems. Its quality will naturally depend on how it is taken care of. However, the timber could be stored under water for a period of 4-5 years. Nevertheless, most of that timber will be disposed of within a couple of years. (Source: Nordic Forest Owners Associations) |
