Wooden chairs have become one of Vietnam’s major export products in the forestry sector, accounting for 24% of its total export turnover. Vietnam earned USD 119.2 million from the exports of wooden chairs to 80 countries worldwide during the first quarter of 2006, up 47% from the same period last year. Exports of these products are predicted to reach USD 445 million this year (22% of the countrys wooden furniture export), up 45% from 2005, according to the Vietnam Wood and Forestry Product Association. The USA is the largest market, representing 16% of the country’s wooden chair export trade. However, most of the wooden furniture exported to the USA is manufactured mainly by foreign companies in Vietnam. More than 460 companies in Vietnam, including more than 400 local ones, are currently exporting wooden chairs. (Source: Fordaq) |
